Located in northern Texas, Tolar is a city with a population of approximately 885 according to the United State Census Bureau. Tolar is positioned in Hood County. The county seat of Hood County is Granbury, which is located about 8 miles west of Tolar. Due to its close proximity to Granbury, Tolar is part of the Granbury Micropolitan Statistical Area.
Tolar, Texas is named in honor of Captain Alfred H. H. Tolar, a Confederate soldier who served in the Civil War. Before Tolar was founded, many individuals settled in the area already. Individuals were attracted to the area due to the fertile land. After the end of the Civil War and arrival of the railroad, Tolar began receiving regular mail delivery and experience significant growth.
