Glen Rose is a city situated in north Texas. It is positioned in Somervell County and serves as the county seat. Currently, Glen Rose is the largest city in Somervell County with a population of approximately 2,594 in 2016 according to the United States Census Bureau.

Glen Rose is located in an area that Charles Barnard settled in 1849. In 1859, the city’s first store was constructed. Eventually, citizens of the community voted to rename their settlement Glen Rose. The community was originally known as Rose Glen. In 1874, the first post office was opened in Glen Rose. The city became the county seat of the newly formed Somervell County the next year.

Individuals visiting Glen Rose will quickly discover there are many things to see and do around the City of Glen Rose. The city is home to several attractions including Barnard’s Mill and Art Museum. Barnard’s was the first permanent structure in the Glen Rose area. Also located in the city is the Creation Evidence Museum. The museum invites visitors to marvel at its many artifacts, fossils, and ancient footprints in stone. Glen Rose is also home to the Historic Courthouse Square. This historic area of the city is occupied by museums, inns, restaurants, and more.

The coolest months of the year are December, January, and February. During the summer season, daytime temperatures can climb up to the low-100s.
